Michael Heslin is a double law graduate and has
been a costs consultant for 20 years. He previously managed the
City office of one of the largest firms of costs consultants in
the UK, where his responsibilities included the training of new
professional staff and implementation of systems for the management of instructions from insurer clients and other bulk providers. Michael’s experience with large and massive
scale costs claims is unequalled. He has prepared several of the
largest costs claims ever advanced in the UK, running into tens of
millions of pounds, and for some years has been retained by
Kuwait Airways Corporation in relation to all of their costs
claims arising out of their billion dollar claim against Iraqi
Airways Company. Michael has given expert evidence in the High
Court and has represented his
clients on numerous occasions in the House of Lords. Michael
devotes much of his spare time to further study and is working
towards a Master of Laws degree in International Intellectual
Property law.
Afqar Dean has worked at several major City law firms. He is a qualified Costs Lawyer and in July 2007 became one of the first costs consultants to be granted rights of audience. Afqar is vastly experienced and has been a practicing costs consultant for over 20 years, gaining a considerable reputation for his work on many high profile cases, in particular in the areas of media and libel. Afqar has dealt with costs claims for many prominent MPs, sports stars and celebrities including the former Prime Minister John Major and boxer Lennox Lewis. Afqar also deals with complex claims arising out of group litigation, personal injuries claims and planning appeals (where he recently mounted a successful challenge to the application of Circular 08/93). He has also worked with Michael on many leading commercial and intellectual property cases. He is well known to the Costs Judges in the Senior Courts Costs Office where he is a regular advocate.
